- URUGUAY. 5 Centesimos, 1840. Montevideo Mint. Republic. PCGS AU-58. KM-1; Antunez-1.1.2. Thick planchet/medal alignment. The smaller of the two denominations minted in 1840, 5 Centesimos pieces are considerably harder to obtain than their 20 Centesimos counterparts. The present light brown example, well produced and preserved, is sharply struck on a perfect planchet and bordering very close to Mint State condition. Being the finer of only two examples certified at PCGS, serious Latin American collectors are bound to compete intensely for this VERY RARE type. Estimate: $2,500 - $3,500.
