FROM THE SEATTLE COLLECTION Ex Lemus Collection. A Rarity-5 die trial, using the regular 1865 Proof dies, struck in copper with a plain edge. Totally original, this GEM has a pleasing patination that is seen on smooth, flashy fields. Hints of red color are seen mellowing to an even brown, with accents of violet and blue. A pleasing piece from the first year of this obsolete denomination, this coin has an excellent pedigree. PCGS 2, NGC 4. Last sold in the 2009 FUN auction, which featured the extensive Queller/Lemus Collection of patterns, this coin was earlier in the Corrado Romano Collection, sold by Stack's in June 1987, lot 837. This coin realized $2,760 over a decade ago. and none have sold in nearly six years! NONE are graded higher at NGC in the BN category.
