1865-S Seated Liberty Quarter. Briggs 1-A. AU-58 (PCGS). A rare issue that boasts a small mintage of 41,000 pieces. This is one of the finer examples that actually saw brief circulation. Lustrous fields with light golden-tan toning covering both sides. The surfaces are free of all but minuscule marks from handling. Reasonably sharp on all devices, save for the last star, which lacks its central radial lines. Curiously there are just 4 coins graded as AU-58 at PCGS, then the next grade reported is EF-45, thus as with so many mintmarked Seated quarters, these are virtually unobtainable in high circulated grades, and some dates apparently do not exist in mint condition. A delightful coin in the perfect collector grade.
