This GEM dime was struck the same year as Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Vicksburg, Chickamauga, and Chattanooga, a major turning point in the war, when the fortunes finally began to turn towards the Union. Only 14,000 dimes were struck, making this one of the lowest mintage issues in the entire series. The present GEM is deeply toned in blues, greens, and golds, which are brought out by a semi-reflective luster in the fields. Sharply struck up, the details are fully rendered with crisp definition throughout. The eye appeal is simply amazing and the technical quality stands up to close scrutiny, we are not sure why CAC didn't bean this beauty. PCGS 10, NGC 8. The most recent example to sell was in our July 2020 sale of the BigMo Collection, Part 1, which brought $3,995 and the current PCGS Price Guide value is $4,250. Extremely rare finer, just a handful have ever received a higher grade. This coin will see very spirited bidding when it crosses the block. PCGS # 4637.00
