A SUPERB example of the first year of the Barber series. As the first year, collectors saved a good number of GEMS at the time of issue. That said, few remain in such a lofty state of preservation and is actually quite scarce at the MS67 grade level. Amazing, satiny smooth surfaces have a bold luster. Like many examples of this first year issue in high grade Mint State, we think this piece was stored in an old kraft envelope for ages which put a lovely "dusty" iridescent toning on both sides. Well struck and frosty, the luster comes through satiny smooth surfaces. This is a classic, old time collection look, one that is highly desirable! PCGS 33, NGC 18. In the last three years, we have sold two of the five non-CAC approved PCGS graded examples; one for $1,821 in July 2020 and the other for $2,820 in January 2018. The current PCGS value is listed at $3,000. Just 13 are graded finer. Worthy of a great set of Barber quarters. Cert. Number 40552857 PCGS # 5601.00
