- "1778" (1860s) Non Dependens Status Copper. Robinson Copy. Kenney-6, W-15250. Copper. MS-65 BN (PCGS).
A close copy, produced in the 1860s, that mimics the unique and controversial Non Dependens Status token reputedly hand engraved by Paul Revere. One in a series of copies of colonial and early American types by coin dealer Alfred S. Robinson of Hartford, Connecticut. The dies were produced by George Hampden Lovett from the drawing in Crosby's Early Coins of America. A choice example, retaining considerable mint red. A couple of tiny carbon spots in the right obverse field serve to identify this specimen.
Provenance: Ex New Netherlands Coin Company; our (Stack's) sale of the John J. Ford, Jr. Collection, Part XIV, May 2006, lot 661. Lot tag and collector envelope with attribution and provenance notes included.
