- Circa 1864 Nantucket Sanitary Fair medalet. Musante GW-674, Baker-364C, Fuld MA530A-1j. Rarity-9. Nickel Alloy. MS-65 (PCGS). 24.1 mm. Brilliant surfaces with bold luster on both sides. Just slight softness at the central reverse but all details are quite clear. Slight granularity evident in the obverse field is die rust or light spalling and is as made. It is on all of the examples from this die in the present sale, but appears particularly sharp on this specimen due to the bright surfaces. Very rare in this composition, called “nickel” in Musante, but it is an alloy. Provenance: Ex William Spohn Baker Collection, to the Historical Society of Pennsylvania by bequest, November 15, 1897.
