- What a totally original and wonderfully preserved GEM 1837 dime! Exceptional quality for this first year of Liberty Seated Dimes as designed by engraver Christian Gobrecht. The obverse is an elegant concept with Ms. Liberty portrayed as a full figure (rather than a bust only) seated on a rock, supporting a shield with one hand and her cap of freedom mounted high on a pole, a symbol of throwing off the shackles of servitude. The elegant design without the stars make Liberty really pop off the fields and is uncluttered by the stars. This one was clearly set aside at the time of issue, with a fully brilliant satiny Mint luster in the fields and toned with attractive antique gray and gold accents around each of the devices. Splashes of iridescent toning adds to the originality and beautiful eye appeal, especially on the reverse, which is framed by a lovely cobalt halo. Boldly struck and free of any nicks or cuts, with the fields showing a few microscopic ticks from long ago. The eye appeal is great on this very short-lived type. PCGS 6, NGC 4, CAC 4. The most recent PCGS/CAC MS65 sold back in the Stack's Bowers July 2015 sale of the Douglas Kaselitz Collection, realizing $10,575. The current CAC CPG value is listed at $11,900 and the PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $12,500. VERY RARE any finer, this GEM will certainly delight any advanced type collector or Seated Dime specialist. What a great coin that will see very spirited bidding. Cert. Number 11233146 PCGS # 4562
