SCOTLAND. Scotland - Mexico. Lanarkshire. Glasgow. Grill Pattern Canceled 5 Shillings, ND (1811). PCGS VF-25 Gold Shield; Countermark: XF Details. KM-CC37; Manville-37. Issued by Adamson & Logan, Glasgow. Countermark: "Five Shil" in two lines within corded border surrounded by: "Adamson & Logan, Glasgow" applied to the obverse of an 1811-Mo HJ Mexico bust 8 Reales of Ferdinand VII. An attractive new discovery piece from this EXTREMELYRAREissuer with only eight examples known prior to the appearance of this survivor and the only collectable example on the market. The countermark is deeply applied though the subsequent grill cancelation obliterated most of the design save for a small portion of the outer legend of which the "OG" of "LOGAN" is visible making attribution easy for the trained eye. This moderately worn survivor offers much originality displaying lovely soft gray tone with areas of richer coloration throughout adding to its pleasing appearance and desirability. A really interesting example from this heavily collected series sure to excite even the most advanced collectors of Scottish and countermark collectors alike. Highly coveted issues from the series seldom appear in the marketplace and always command a strong premium, we expect to serious competition for the chance to acquire such a survivor. The firm of Adamson and Logan were a well known early 19th Century manufacturer producing muslin, gingham and pullicate wears. By 1817 the firm was well enough known to be featured in the news report of the August issue of "The Scots Magazine".
