- 1870-CC Liberty Seated Quarter. Briggs 1-A, the only known dies. Good-4 (PCGS). CAC. Secure Holder.
Rare in all grades with a tiny mintage of 8,340 pieces of which PCGS has certified just 43 in graded holders, of that small number nine are in lowergrades than this pleasing Good-4, which is a testament to how few nice coins are known. Smooth wear with pleasing silver-gray toning throughout. Natural small nicks and circulation marks are present, but nothing deep or detracting. Furthermore the rims are virtually intact and complete save for one small area on each side where just a trace has worn smooth to the peripheral devices. First year of issue for this famed Western Mint, at a time when coinage was in short supply. There simply was no need to save these pieces and their service in the Wild West was far more important than anything else. Central definition is intact too, with LIBERTY faint but present, and the reverse sports several letters in the Motto and shield definition. Destined to the the highlight of an advanced Seated Liberty quarter collection.
PCGS# 5477.
