- 1892 Morgan Silver Dollar. MS-65 (PCGS). CAC.
Captivating brilliant-white surfaces are boldly to sharply struck with a full endowment of smooth, billowy mint luster. The 1892 tells a familiar story for a circulation strike silver dollar issue of the Morgan design type. Once considered a major rarity because few coins saw immediate release, this situation changed in the late 1950s and early 1960s with the distribution of large numbers of Mint State coins by the Treasury Department. Unlike many other Morgan dollar issues, however, these distributions were of relatively short duration, for by the time of the truly great Treasury Department releases of 1962 to 1964 quantities of the 1892 had been almost totally exhausted. Today the 1892 is obtainable enough in certified grades up to and including MS-64, although the issue is scarce compared to the really common date Morgan dollars such as the 1881-S and 1885-O. As a well struck, carefully preserved and attractive upper end Gem the 1892 is a decided condition rarity, the present offering representing a fleeting bidding opportunity for the discerning collector.
