- Extraordinary Masse d'Or of Philippe the Fair FRANCE. Masse d'Or, ND (ca. 1296-1310). Philippe IV (the Fair) (1285-1314). PCGS AU-58 Secure Holder. Fr-254; Dupl-208; Ciani-196. RAREgold issue from early in the history of the unified Kingdom of France. A more simple design than is seen in the successive issue from this and following monarchs with the King enthroned in a simple field surrounded by basic tressure. Fine strike with full legends and devices showing no muddling or doubling if not complete boldness or delineation of beaded borders. Surfaces are toned a vibrant golden orange with strong underlying luster. Only trivial brushes of wear and a few scattered contact marks. Estimate: $10,000 - $15,000.
