- 1785 Vermont Copper. Landscape. RR-4, Bressett 3-C, W-2015. Rarity-4. VERMONTIS. VF-30.
103.1 grains. Deep golden-brown with lighter golden high points on uniformly microrough surfaces. Both sides perfectly centered with bold dentils around the circumference. Obverse from the sunken state of the die with swelling nearly all the way around inside the peripheral legends, scattered digs noted, mostly at the viewer's left end of the mountains, no other prominent marks, details fairly bold but with a touch of weakness at the plow handles, reverse sharp throughout save for the rays between DECIMA and STELLA and again in the rays between A and D, these areas weakened by the obverse planchet bulge, no marks of singular importance greet the unaided eye. From the only obverse (Bressett-3) with VERMONTIS in the legend. Readily within the Carlotto weight metrology of 97.4 grains on the low end and 133.0 grains on the high end. A relatively choice Landscape copper despite a few drawbacks, and a coin that should be seen to be fully appreciated.
PCGS# 542.
Provenance: From the Dan Freidus Collection. Paper envelope with attribution notes included.
