- The 1849-O dime is the third RAREST New Orleans issue from the 1840s, and it is one of the hardest dates in the 1840s to find in ANY Mint State grades. PCGS CoinFacts estimates 25 survive in all Mint State grades. This delightfully CHOICE example is struck from the Fortin-103a dies, listed as Rarity-4. The obverse devices display heavy die rust and the fields have a trace of reflective brilliance, a result of heavy lapping. Well struck with bold definition on both sides. A few tiny marks are seen with the aid of a glass, none of which are singularly distracting or impact the eye appeal of this challenging early Seated dime. PCGS 3, NGC 6. The current Collectors Universe value is listed at $6,000 and there are just three graded finer at NGC, all MS64s-the most recent of which brought $13,200 nearly five years ago!
