- 1845-D Liberty Head Quarter Eagle. Winter 6-I, the only known dies. AU-50 (PCGS). Attractive medium golden-yellow surfaces retain appreciable mint luster. Suitably bold overall for a lightly circulated Dahlonega Mint gold coin, striking detail is actually sharp to full toward the borders. One of 19,460 examples of this issue struck, representing an about average mintage for a D-Mint quarter eagle from the 1840s. Much of the mintage saw heavy commercial use, with most survivors grading VF to EF. This piece is among the more well preserved examples available to today's advanced Southern gold enthusiasts.
