- THE SAN DIEGO COLLECTION The FINEST KNOWN example of this Overton number, the Overton-Parsley Condition Census lists the top grade examples as 64,63,63,62,62. This impressive near-GEM has a fantastic pedigree and technical quality to match. Regardless of die marriage, there are just three finer at PCGS, a single MS65 and two in MS66. A fabulous coin that has been called GEM BRILLIANT UNCIRCULATED in the past. A beautiful example of the date and type, the surfaces are satiny smooth and boasting a bold underlying brilliance, highlighting sensational sea-green and deep blue toning. Needle sharp striking details are seen on both sides with every detail crisply rendered from an exacting blow from the dies. The eye appeal is truly exceptional, matching the exceptional technical quality. Ex "An Outstanding Type Collection of U.S. Half Dollars", Stack's, October1986, lot 319; Worrell Collection, Superior, September 1993, lot 1267; Hamilton Collection; Heritage's sale of the Hamilton Collection, August 2016, lot 4503 (as NGC MS64 OH CAC); Jim O'Neal Collection, Heritage, April 2019, lot 3728 (as PCGS MS64+ CAC); Legend Numismatics; our consignor. PCGS 21, NGC 19, CAC 8. This coin brought almost $20,000 in August 2016 and again for $17,400 in April 2019. The current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $21,500. This essentially GEM quality example has a better overall look in this cataloger's opinion to the Noblet-Pogue MS65 CAC that we sold for $27,025 in our September 2021 Regency Auction offering of the Chicago Collection; the world class Perfection Collection only had a PCGS MS64 CAC. This coin will find itself at home in another sensational set of Capped Bust halves, or type coins. Good luck. Cert. Number 46263193 PCGS # 39409
