- 1905 Liberty Head Quarter Eagle. JD-1, the only known dies. Rarity-4. Proof-62 (PCGS). Warm honey-gold and reddish-orange colors blanket both sides of this delightful Proof. The strike is full, and there is appreciable reflectivity from the fields. Production of Proof Liberty Head quarter eagles resulted in a mintage of only 144 coins in 1905, the lowest number of any Proof the last decade of this long-running series. The brilliant finish as seen here proved to be popular among the numismatists of the day and was continued up until the end of the series, so popular in fact that many collectors eschewed the Sandblast Proofs of the subsequent Indian quarter eagle type.
