- 1889-CC Liberty Head Double Eagle. AU-55 (PCGS). Lovely pinkish-honey surfaces are sharply defined overall with plenty of original mint luster. Undeniably original and highly attractive Choice AU quality with the added appeal of the unique double C mintmark of the Carson City Mint. This fabled frontier era coinage facility produced a mere 30,945 double eagles in 1889, a figure equal to $618,900 in face value. Circulated examples are relatively obtainable by CC-mint double eagle standards, and they enjoy unflagging demand among both mintmarked type collectors and series specialists.
