- 1870 Pattern Dime. Judd-834, Pollock-924. Rarity-6+. Proof-64 RD (PCGS). OGH--First Generation. Liberty is seated left on the obverse, her left hand holding an olive branch and her right supporting a shield over which a ribbon inscribed LIBERTY is draped. A free-standing liberty pole is present behind the portrait, the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA is around the border and the date 1870 is below. The reverse is the same that the Mint used to produce regular issue 1870 Seated Liberty Dimes. Struck in copper with a plain edge.<br /> Original pinkish-rose color to both sides, the devices sharply struck and the fields with appreciable reflectivity. There is hardly a blemish in evidence, and none that are outwardly distracting. A very scarce type, Judd-834 has an extant population of only about a dozen specimens per the website uspatterns.com.
