- 1827 Capped Bust Half Dollar. O-144. Rarity-5+. Square Base 2. Fine-12 (PCGS). Pleasing collector quality with deeper gray fields and lighter silver devices in typical combination for this series. The surfaces show smooth wear and no troubling circulation problems, just smooth wear. The strike shows the diagnostic softness on the left wing near the shield, and the reverse lettering is drawn with the dentils softly impressed or worn smooth. There are between 30 and 40 of these known in all grades, and fewer are turning up these days after forty years of searching by the specialists in this series. PCGS# 6144.
