- THE SAN DIEGO COLLECTION In terms of mintage, you would think the 1827 half dollar would be more available in GEM grades; the mintage of nearly 5.5 million ranks among the highest for the series. However, the date is VERY RARE in MS65 or finer grades. For the O-107 die marriage, this coin ranks at the top of the Overton-Parsley Census and is at the top of Stephen Herrman's AMBPR listing. This GEM is beautifully toned in rich shades of blue, violet, and fuchsia that are truly a delight to behold. A precision blow from the dies has brought out each and every detail to their finest advantage, and they stand out in stark relief against the smooth fields. The surfaces are clean, free of distracting contact marks, hairlines, or any other flaw that would take away from the GEM technical grade and lovely visual allure. Ex Heritage, March 2016, lot 4894, (as PCGS MS64). PCGS 17, NGC 19. The most recent non-CAC PCGS coin to sell in auction realized $8,519 in our February 2021 Regency Auction. The current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $13,500. VERY RARE any finer, there are just five in MS65+, six in MS66, and a single MS67 finest. This great looking coin will see spirited competition when it crosses the block! Good luck. Cert. Number 46263209 PCGS # 39699
