详细说明: 1850-O Seated Liberty Quarter. Briggs 1-B. MS-64 (NGC). As with all pre-1853 New Orleans Mint issues in the Seated Quarter series, the 1850-O is a very challenging issue to locate in high grades with strong eye appeal. This issue circulated widely, and few coins survived at any level of preservation. Heavily worn examples are the norm, and the few AU and Mint State survivors tend to be plagued by poor striking quality and/or dark toning.<br /> The near-Gem we offer here was struck from a rusted obverse die--as is always the case with this issue--but the overall definition to both sides is uncommonly sharp. Only in isolated areas at the denticles, in fact, do we see mentionable softness of detail. Bright and satiny, both sides are untoned with the exception of a few blushes of pale-copper iridescence. Lightly marked, as befits the grade, yet free of singularly distracting abrasions. A Condition Census representative of an issue that Larry Briggs (1991) rates as Rarity-6 in Mint State.
