- 1836 Pattern Gold Dollar. Judd-67, Pollock-70. Rarity-5. Proof-63 Cameo (PCGS). A liberty cap surrounded by a glory of rays or sunburst serves as the sole element of the design on the obverse. The word LIBERTY is inscribed on the band of the cap. The reverse exhibits a coiled palm frond encircling the denomination 1 D., with the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA around the border and the date 1836 below. Struck in gold (standard alloy of 90% gold, 10% copper) with a plain edge.<br /> A lovely specimen with vivid color in a blend of olive-orange and pale-pink shades. An all-brilliant finish is most vibrant when observed with the aid of direct light, but sharply impressed devices are easily seen at all angles. Well contrasted in finish, with only wispy hairlines to preclude a higher numeric grade. Examples of Judd-67 were first struck in early 1836 with U.S. Mint restrikes attributed to the late 1850s/early 1860s. Unique Cameo designation from PCGS!
