- 1828 Classic Head Half Cent. C-3. Rarity-1. 13 Stars. MS-64 RB (PCGS). OGH. Ample mint color in vivid pinkish-orange remains on both sides, the surfaces also revealing pleasing toning in iridescent steel-brown. A few carbon spots are evident in the left obverse field before Liberty's profile, and they are joined by a more prominent one centered on star 8, as well as a smaller one on the reverse below the letter M in AMERICA. Otherwise the surfaces are Choice with a satiny texture and sharp striking detail to the design elements. Most partially to fully red 1828 half cents trace their history to a hoard dispersed by Washington, D.C. collector and dealer Benjamin Collins, who flourished in the last decade of the 19th century and the first decade of the 20th.
