1825 Matron Head Cent. N-3. Rarity-3. MS-64 BN (PCGS).
An enchanting survivor from the Newcomb-3 dies that is surely positioned among the finest examples known. The surfaces sport a uniform and satiny luster that blankets each side without distractions. Liberty's hair is impressively intricate and matched by similar sharpness to the reverse wreath. The dies are ever so slightly misaligned, as is usually the case with the N-3 marriage, leaving the denticles trimmed from the upper left quadrants of each side. Glowing swaths of tangerine and golden-tan radiate beneath a light source, backlighting the darker cocoa-brown hues that are marbled throughout. A trivial speck of verdigris shows in the field before Liberty's cheek, while a shallow nick at Liberty's throat will aid in tracing this piece through future cabinets. The dies exhibit remarkable fatigue for the marriage, representative of Noyes Die State B/A (late). Flowlines are apparent at the denticles on each side, with the stars and reverse legend pulling to the border in some instances. A crack stretches from the flag of the 5 in the date to the adjacent curl, while another crack protrudes from the tip of Liberty's bust but becomes fainter as it approaches the rim. This is a truly wonderful coin to examine in-hand and will certainly draw strong interest from both type collectors and specialists.
