1868-S Liberty Eagle. AU-53 (NGC). Despite a relatively generous (for the decade) mintage of 13,500 pieces, the 1868-S is a very challenging Eagle to locate in grades above the basal EF level. Uncommonly sharp in detail, this minimally worn survivor also exhibits bold color to both sides, the overall appearance one of warm khaki-orange patina. Copper-rose outlines are noted for the obverse devices; there are no individually mentionable abrasions.
