- 1914-S Buffalo Nickel. MS-67 (NGC). Bright, virtually brilliant surfaces radiate lovely satin luster as the coin rotates under a light. Closer inspection does reveal some toning, and we note delicate powder-blue and pale-gold iridescence that is very pleasing to the eye. Examples of this issue come both poorly struck and sharply impressed, this particular example definitely falling into the latter category. The detail is crisp from rim-to-rim, and there is no mentionable softness of detail in any area, especially for an S-mint Nickel of this type. We also see no detracting blemishes, the surfaces smooth and solidly graded as Superb Gem. Tied for Condition Census #2!<br /> An original mintage of 3.4 million pieces is limited by Buffalo Nickel standards, thus confirming the 1914-S as a semi-key issue in all grades. Most survivors grade no finer than MS-64, and this issue is rare-to-very rare at and above the MS-66 level. Only four Superb Gems have been certified in MS-67 and MS-68, all of which are listed at NGC.
