- Exceptional Copper Pattern 5 Centavos
Struck at the US Mint - Engraved by William H. Key
HONDURAS. Copper 5 Centavos Pattern, 1871. Philadelphia Mint. PCGS SPECIMEN-66 Brown Gold Shield.
KM-Pn13. A RAREcopper pattern in the adopted design for the key one-year silver 5 Centavos issue that had a mintage of only 2,056 pieces. A great coin, this piece showcases virtually flawless surfaces that possess full mirror-like qualities in the fields on both side. Perhaps more exceptional however is the accompanying tone, which is subtle yet appealing on the arms side of the design, but absolutely explodes on the tree side with a purple hue in the centers and intense cobalt-blue color in the surrounding areas. Quite likely unmatched in these dramatic qualities among survivors of the issue, with no technical equals certified by either PCGS or NGC as well. Truly, a remarkable Central American jewel!
Estimate: $1,000 - $2,000.
Provenance: From the Matthew Orsini Collection.
Ex: Richard Stuart Collection.
