FROM THE MERIDIAN COLLECTION A wonderful and totally original 1911 Proof Liberty nickel. Extremely reflective watery mirrors delight the eye, giving depth to the pastel blue, gold, aqua, and lilac toning. Sharply struck, frosty devices stand out against the mirrored fields creating a moderate Cameo contrast. A few microscopic flecks are seen with strong glass, but do not detract from the outstanding eye appeal. PCGS 17, NGC 7, CAC 13. The current PCGS Price Guide value is weighted down by recent sales of non-CAC approved coins. The most recent PCGS/CAC example sold for $4,230 in our October 2017 Regency Auction and prior to that, one sold in the 2017 FUN auction for $3,995. Indeed, this SUPERB coin sold in the 2013 FUN auction for $3,819. Just four coins are graded finer, all PR67+, the only one ever to sell brought $9,600 in April 2018.
