"1781" (Circa 1820) North American Token. W-13980. EF-45 BN (NGC). Deep golden-brown surfaces exhibit nominal roughness in places under low magnification, though no substantial marks appear to the unaided eye. Evenly centered on both sides with nearly full dentil details. Choice overall.<br /> <br /> Purposely struck from worn and roughened dies to simulate a long stay in circulation for the newly minted pieces. In 1977 noted gold specialist Doug Winter punch-linked the "1781" North American token to two tokens designed and issued by William Mossop, Jr. in England&nbsp;circa 1810 to 1820, thus confirming a long-held thought that these were made much later than the 1781 date.&nbsp;
