- 1870 Pattern Half Dollar. Judd-987, Pollock-1116. Rarity-6+. Proof-63 (PCGS). Secure Holder. Standard Silver design with a right-facing bust of Liberty on the obverse. The legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA is around the border and the motto IN GOD WE TRUST is on a scroll below. Liberty's hair's is tied in a bun at the back of the head, and she wears a headband inscribed LIBERTY and adorned with a single star. The reverse design is comprised of the denomination 50 CENTS, a surrounding wreath of oak and laurel, the inscription STANDARD SILVER above and the date 1870 below. Struck in silver with a reeded edge.<br /> Fully struck and lightly toned, both sides reveal uniform mint reflectivity through a veil of soft sandy-silver and pale-lavender tinting. There are no sizable contact marks, leaving only wispy hairlines to explain the Choice grade from PCGS.
