FROM THE MHS COLLECTION This is the third highest graded 1836 quarter of any die marriage at PCGS, just two are finer a singe MS65 and a single MS67. This is easily in the Condition Census for the B-3 marriage, and though Rarity-1 overall it is EXTREMELY RARE so fine! Both sides of this near-GEM were struck from shattered dies. Extensive cracks cross the obverse in dramatic fashion, it is a wonder the obverse die was still in use when this coin was produced. The details are well formed, but show some bluntness due to the advanced cracks. A satiny luster glows under a rich melange of golden and russet-gray patina that when rotated in a light reveals some iridescent hues. The eye appeal is excellent. PCGS 6, NGC 15, CAC 4. This is the ONLY MS64+ graded by PCGS and just two are finer. Back in November 2012, this coin brought $11,750. The current PCGS Price Guide value is $14,500. The extensive Pogue Collection only contained an MS64 (that brought $17,625 in May 2015, the only MS65, the Eliasberg-Gardner coin, sold in the same month for $42,300. Worthy of a world class early quarter set, bidding will be very strong! Cert. Number 26030105 PCGS # 5355
