While overshadowed by other early dates, the 1918 Mercury dime is a condition rarity as well-- only eight coins have graded finer (7 in MS67 FB or MS67+ FB). The sharply struck devices are seemingly sculpted out of the smooth fields and display a brilliant, satin mint bloom. The boldly lustrous, smooth fields bring out the crispness of the devices. There is only the slightest hint of iridescent hues, giving this piece a wonderful look. PCGS 67, NGC 22, CAC 17. There are 5 coins assigned the "+" grade at PCGS,. The only CAC- approved PCGS MS66+ FB ever sold in auction, sold for $3,995 in October 2017. The current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $3,500 while in MS67 FB, the guide lists a value of $10,000 (which seems low, as the last three examples have brought well in excess of that level.
