1898-S Barber Quarter. MS-65 (NGC). Along with the 1899-S and 1900-S, the 1898-S is one of the three San Francisco Mint Barber quarter issues that were widely exported for use in the Philippines in the aftermath of the United States' victory in the Spanish-American War of 1898. Mint State coins of even marginal quality are very scarce due to this fact, and the issue is nothing short of rare at and above the MS-65 level. Brilliant satin-white surfaces on both sides, this flashy piece also sports a full strike from the dies. Troublesome abrasions are conspicuous by their absence.
