- 1741-L Sou Marque. Bayonne Mint. Vlack-130. Rarity-8. EF-40 (PCGS). 31.0 grains. An extremely rare mint with only five surviving specimens known (as of 2008) from its entire 14-year mintage of the denomination. This piece is deep brown in color. The mintmark is only faintly evident at certain viewing angles, but the combination of bold rose and dog differentsconfirm it to be a 1741 Bayonne issue. The date is bold, as are most other features save for those along the lower right obverse border, upper and lower left reverse borders. The Ford Collection did not have a Bayonne sou.
