- 1859 Liberty Seated Half Dollar. Proof-65 (PCGS). CAC. This rich-looking piece exhibits a beautiful, original appearance with a peripheral ring of sea-green toning. The centers are a soft rose-gray color. The fields are modestly mirrored, the "flash" being somewhat limited by the colorful patina that has gathered over the years. A scarce early Proof Seated half dollar, the 1859 is much more challenging to collect than a respectable mintage of 800 pieces might imply. Many examples were melted in the Mint when they failed to sell to contemporary collectors. PCGS Population: 10; just 3 are finer within the designation (Proof-67 finest). PCGS# 6413. NGC ID: 27TJ.
