The 1859 Indian Head cent is the first year of a 50-year series, but makes up a one year only subtype with the olive wreath without a shield on the reverse. This AMAZING coin is one of the FINEST KNOWN of the date at PCGS, tied for highest graded--a perfect Registry Set coin! WOW. Brilliant golden-tan surfaces gleam with a bold mint luster. A hint of iridescent overtones gracing the surfaces are virtually flawless and clean with no marks or even tiny flecks visible, even with magnification. The reverse shows a number of small die cracks adding to the charm and visual allure of this beautiful borderline SUPERB GEM. The eye appeal is incredible. PCGS 63, NGC 12, CAC 17. There are 11 in MS66+ at PCGS with NONE FINER! The current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $21,000, but the most recent example, ex Tom Bender Collection, sold in the 2023 FUN auction for $28,800, and that coin had a mark by the date.
