FROM THE PERFECTION COLLECTION OF CAPPED BUST HALF DOLLARS A fabulous 1808 half dollar, among the dozen finest known by PCGS regardless of Overton number. The present GEM O-106a is the SINGLE FINEST struck from this pair of dies. Blazing, swirling cartwheel luster is bold and intense for an early Capped Bust half dollar. The strong satiny luster glows throughout the surfaces bringing the gentle dusting of iridescent toning to life. The shades of antique pewter-silver mix with golden-tan, russet, and the palest iridescent lilac-gray hues really add to the outstanding visual allure of this PQ GEM. An arching die crack from the obverse rim at 11:30 curves through Liberty's cap, through her hair curls, down along the drapery and clasp down past the 1 in the date to the rim, defining this advanced later die state. Mostly well struck with exceptional definition throughout with just a hint of weakness at the left wing. The eye appeal is sensational in every way! Ex Andre Dawson Collection, Heritage, September 1998, lot 6753 (as NGC MS66); Goldberg's, February 2013, lot 1317. PCGS 5, NGC 3, CAC 3. In February 2013, this marvelous PQ GEM realized $48,300 in the Goldberg auction. Just half a dozen 1808 half dollars have ever graded finer, the finest are clustered at MS67. Disregard the more recent APRs or published prices at this grade level, we expect very strong bidding for this borderline SUPERB GEM. Bound for another WORLD CLASS Bust half dollar cabinet. Good luck! Cert. Number 21907544 PCGS # 6090
