An incredible GEM with very impressive, prooflike surfaces that border on full DMPL status. The mirrors are bold, deep, clean, and blindingly brilliant! Both sides were struck from an early state of the dies; you can clearly see the extensive die polishing lines on both sides, particularly on the reverse. The surfaces are totally untoned, and the well struck and clean devices are beautifully frosted. PCGS 0, NGC 45, CAC 47. (The PCGS and NGC data represent only those in the original GSA holders, CAC for all MS66 PLs regardless). The only GSA graded MS66* PL was a fantastically toned example that realized $5,715 in the 2012 FUN auction. A non-"star", non-CAC designated example sold in the 2017 FUN auction for $1,880. This CAC-approved, "*" designated, borderline DMPL should bring a VERY strong price from the specialist collector! We do anticipate a fierce bidding war when this one crosses the block. Cert.
