CHINA. Fantasy "Mausoleum" Silver Dollar, "Year 16" (1927). NGC AU-58. cf. L&M-85 (for prototype); cf. K-609 (same). Channeling the VERY RAREpattern designed by the Austrian Richard Placht, this piece likely served as a fairly faithful copy of the original made for collecting purposes. Given the extreme difficultly in acquiring one of the original strikings, this fantasy issue presents the modern collector with the same, and much more realistic, opportunity as was afforded to those in the early portion of the 20th century.
