1870 Two-Cent Piece. MS-65 RD (PCGS). Enhancing blushes of reddish-rose peripheral iridescence enliven otherwise autumn-orange surfaces. A satiny and smooth-looking Gem with smartly impressed design elements. The first two-cent issue with a circulation strike delivery of fewer than 1 million coins, the 1870 is a scarce-to-rare offering in all Mint State grades. Most such pieces exhibit either BN or RB surfaces, with full Red examples seldom encountered at even the largest numismatic gatherings.
