- The final quarter issue struck in this southern most branch mint until 1892 and the introduction to the Barber series, this MS64 ranks among the HIGHEST graded at PCGS. A major condition rarity, there are just three graded finer at PCGS. Original, mottled patina is brought out by a thick, underlying satiny sheen. Rich coppery gold clings to the rims, before blending to a pearly-blue-pewter-silver. Sharply struck, we note just a few microscopic ticks that are well hidden by the original toning. PCGS 11, NGC 8. The most recent example sold two years ago, realizing $2,640; this one last sold in December 2013 for $4,113. The market has unfairly put great coins like this on sale, as they were bringing $5,000-$6,000 in 2008-2009. The current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $4,000.
