- The 1916 Matte Proof Lincoln is the rarest in the series after the 1909 V.D.B. and is always in strong demand from collectors. This GEM is mostly RED, essentially on the cusp of the RD designation. It really is among the most RED examples we have seen graded in the RB designation. Indeed, were it not for a tiny fleck on the obverse and a blush of iridescent purple on the reverse. Razor sharp in strike, the details are crisp, full and the surfaces are exceptionally brilliant for the date. The sandblast finish shows an infinite quantity of facets that sparkle like diamonds in a light. The eye appeal is spectacular! Only 1050 Proofs were struck. PCGS 56, NGC 21, CAC 14. The most recent example sold for $4,970 in May 2022; we sold another spectacular and virtually full red example for $5,758 five years ago! Clearly these don't come up with frequency. The current CAC CPG value is listed at $7,120 and the Collectors Universe value is listed at $6,500. Scarce finer in the RB designation and RARE in full RED, this GEM presents a great coin at a great value. Bidding will be very intense for this wonderful and PQ example. Cert. Number 41081538 PCGS # 3325
