Ex Meyer/Link, as noted on the insert. A very popular engraving error variety that boasts one of the great Capped Bust half dollar provenance's, that of Charlton "Swampy" Meyer. The die sinker originally punched STATAS into the reverse die, and upon realizing the error, punched the correct letter E over the second A. Brilliant silvery frost offers a wonderful sheen. This coin clearly sat in an old collector album, where a halo of blue, crimson, and gold frame the obverse and reverse. A few stray lines are noted under a glass, none of which are major detriments to the eye appeal. PCGS 5, NGC 2. Only six coins have graded higher, none of which have ever sold in auction. The most recent AU58 example sold in April 2016 for $5,875 and the current Collector's Universe value is listed at $7,500. One of the cool, major engraving error varieties in this extensive series.
