- GREAT BRITAIN. Davison's Battle of the Nile Medal in Gilt Bronze, 1798. George III (1760-1820). PCGS SP-55 Secure Holder. 47 mm. BHM-447; Eimer-890. By C. H. Kuchler. Hope standing atop rock outcropping supporting shield emblazoned with the bust of Admiral Nelson with open sea behind; Reverse: View of British fleet assembled in Aboukir Bay. Awarded to participants in the Battle of the Nile by Alexander Davison with gilt bronze specimens such as this given to petty officers. Some light contact marks in fields but none overly eye catching, small areas of gilding loss on Nelson's shoulder epaulet and Hope's breast as well as a few tiny rim nicks. A very nice example of the type with many showing extensive wear and/or loss of gilding. Estimate: $500 - $700. Provenance: From the William Painter Collection. PCGS #616245.
