- NETHERLANDS. Printing Press Tercentennial Silver Medal, 1740. PCGS SPECIMEN-62 Gold Shield. 63mm; 78.15 gms. Van Loon-145. By M. Holtzhey. Commemorating the 300th anniversary of the Printing Press. Obverse: Personification of Haarlem seated facing, holding fasces and sacrificing from patera over lighted altar; cherubim around, ocean in background; Reverse: Laurens Janzoon Coster displaying printing die for the letter "A" to Minerva; cherubim to left with printing equipment. An impressive piece with rather high relief, this well struck, attractively toned example offers some hints of cobalt throughout along with pleasing underlying luster.
