- O-101a. The later die state of the O-101 variety that started out as the Broken 3 (see previous lot). A delightful collector oriented example that has a wonderful band of rainbow toning that clings to the extreme periphery on both sides. The brilliant silver centers shimmer and glow with a strong luster. The light lines seen under a glass account for the assigned grade, but the naked eye appeal is certainly that of a higher grade. PCGS 10, NGC 1. Only two PCGS MS62s have ever sold in auction, the first was the Prouty coin, sold in April 2010 for $4,600 and the other was sold in the 2013 FUN auction, realizing just a hair shy of $5,000. The current Collector's Universe value is listed at $5,850 and this variety is RARE in Choice or Gem Mint State grades. As a popular Red Book variety, good luck finding a better example for your set, they rarely appear in auction, and when they do, they are bought by collectors, and put away for a long time. Cert.
