- 1855-S Liberty Head Half Eagle. AU-53 (PCGS). CAC. Glints of orange-apricot iridescence enliven otherwise deep honey-gold surfaces on both sides of this richly original example. Frosty luster is nearly full, and the strike is sharply executed throughout. Given the incredible rarity of the 1854-S, this is the first collectible half eagle from the San Francisco Mint. The 1855-S can be challenging to locate, however, especially in grades above VF and without significant impairments. This premium quality AU-53 is among the finer certified and is sure to find its way into another advanced gold cabinet. Provenance: From the Fairmont Collection - Rhone Set.
