- 1787 Vermont Copper. RR-14, Bressett 10-K, W-2105. URS-10. Mailed Bust Right. AU-53 (PCGS). Hard and glossy chestnut brown with exceptional eye appeal and problem-free surfaces. Marginally off-center to the top of the obverse with the rim tight to the tops of AUC, the reverse nicely centered and free of the rim in all places. No surface marks are noted other than at the centers where the natural ticks in the planchet that were there at striking were protected by the depth of the dies and not struck up; these natural ticks, small in nature, give a bold insight into the minting process of the era. For a similar situation you can refer to the central region of many Walking Liberty half dollars. back to the present beauty. The dentils are bold and sharp, and those areas that are present in the design are equally sharp. This is a Vermont copper for the ages, a relatively common garden variety copper that is heads and tails far finer than virtually all the known examples from the die pair; indeed, it's difficult to imagine a lovelier Vermont copper. Add your name to the illustrious pedigree of this important early American copper.
