1840-C Liberty Quarter Eagle. MS-61 (NGC). Bright and lustrous yellow gold with warm olive highlights and with much prooflike reflectivity throughout. Areas of bold mint frost engage the protected regions around the devices. Essentially unmarked to the unassisted eye with no individual blemishes that requires our written description. One of 12,822 examples struck, most of which circulated long and hard in the channels of commerce in and around Charlotte. An elusive date in Mint State, as shown by the NGC information below.
